David Ellis, 48, was arrested on Tuesday, Aug. 16, just after 11:30 p.m., after a neighbor called police to report what sounded like a domestic assault. They also heard gunshots, and one bullet went through an adjoining wall and stuck in a picture frame, Chelsea police said.

When officers arrived, they beat on the door for several minutes before anyone answered. When Ellis did open the door, police noticed an empty gun holster and bullets nearby. Officers also saw a woman at the back of the apartment with several injuries to her face, authorities said.

Police arrested Ellis without incident. Officers found an AR-15 rifle, a 9mm handgun, a bulletproof vest, a kilo of cocaine, and other drugs inside the apartment, officials said.

Authorities charged Ellis with assault and battery on a family member, several gun and ammunition charges, trafficking cocaine, and other drug charges, police said.
